I purchased the book
The Loved Dog for myself this past Christmas and just got around to reading it. Wow! This is one of the best "dog" training books I have ever read. Tamar pours out her heart about her life, her love of all creatures and how the intense pain from her childhood made her what she is today -- an advocate for innocent animals.
This book isn't just about dogs, it's about life and how precious it is. It's about being kind to others and living a life full of love and compassion. I couldn't put the book down. I laughed, I cried and I rejoiced. Tamar is a beautiful person - inside and out. If you love dogs and want to train them with love and compassion then this is definitely the book for you. A must read for sure! :-)
Here's an excerpt from her book - The Loved Dog (Chap. 21 - Celebrate!):
“....Although we have gained a great deal of awareness about being kind and respectful to animals, there are plenty of people who still abuse, choke and beat up their animals and call it training. Please join me in becoming a dog advocate and spread the word that abuse is unnecessary and unacceptable. It was once considered rude and disruptive to interfere when someone was hitting a child in public. “Turn the other way,” was the commonly accepted custom. “It’s none of your business.”....”As a society, we have come to accept that abuse against children is absolutely our business, even if it’s conducted in the name of “discipline.” It should be the same with animals, too. We must all do whatever we can to end abusive dog training and to speak up for all living creatures who cannot speak up for themselves – whether they are homeless or living next door. Please interfere. Tell your friends, family and acquaintances that they can choose a different way; a loving way to coach and play train their dogs. If we turn a blind eye to abuse, we are participating in it ourselves.”

Sounds a great book. I will look out for it.....Well, I'll tell the Lady Of The House to look out for it anyway.

Your Libra pal,

Our Mama says she wants to read this book... it sounds great! Maybe this Tamar can give us some ideas on how to get certain small little dogs to quit peeing on Gramma's carpet for fun!
Sounds good but don''t give mom any ideas!

Hi Lesli! No, I haven't read that one yet. Who is the author? I'll have to put that one on my list. Thanks for the suggestion. :-)
Have an awesome week!

"The Blessings of the Animals" by Katrina Kittle.
Be prepared to cry, but it is also very heartwarming.
The main character is a veterinarian. She wakes up one day to have her husband leave her for another woman. While the book follows her new love life after her divorce and the love lives of her friends, there is a huge emphasis on the animals in her life--dogs, cats, a donkey, a goat, especially the horses. Sooo good!
