This
story is deeply disturbing to me on so many levels! I have heard of the cruelty that happens in the meat industry but like most of us haven't thought about it that much. No more - I can't turn a blind eye anymore. I am going to research and find local organic farmers in my area that raise and care for farm animals in a humane way. I am also seriously considering becoming a vegetarian.
Anyone curious to know the truth only need to watch the following documentaries -
Food, Inc. and
A River of Waste. They will make you think twice about what you are eating and the devastating effects it has on the animals, on us and the environment.

Hi Tweedles! Yes, you are right - it is legal and completely atrocious! The sad and ugly truth is that the leaders of the FDA (the ones that are supposed to look out for us) used to be the lead executives for the companies that are doing these horrible acts. It was very frightened to learn about this.
Please watch the two documentaries that I noted in the post (if you haven't seen them already). You can find them on Netflix. They will blow your mind. They are not gory at all. I found them to be very informative and a complete eye opener.
