Don't Cook Your Pets! Pets DIE in Hot Vehicles.

via

I blog about this subject around this time every year. It is too important of a subject not to.  As the thermometer reached 106 degrees in South Carolina today, I am reminded of the dangers of heat. I don’t understand how there are still pet owners out there who think that leaving a pet in a vehicle is an acceptable thing to do. It only takes a minute or two for a vehicle to heat up so fast to kill an animal.

Today, I witnessed a dog left in a hot vehicle (100 degrees outside) while the owner shopped in Kohl’s. I had the vehicle’s owner paged and thankfully the dog was rescued before it died. I continue to see this happen over and over again every single summer.

Intelligent people, ignorant people and just plain stupid people do this. The problem is that they just don't think. People want to bring their animal along because they love car rides. They think that they will only be in a store "for just a second" and then they wind up leaving their pet in a car for longer than anticipated. I have seen a dead animal in a vehicle before (caused from being left in a hot vehicle) and it was horrible!

When the temperature outside is over 55 - 60 degrees....don't leave your pet in a vehicle! The vehicle (even on a cool cloudy day) can heat up very fast. Just think about it this way. Think about a very large glass cake cover. You then place this large glass cake cover on asphalt in the hot sun and then place yourself in it. Within minutes (sometimes seconds) the area within the large glass cover starts to rapidly heat up and the air in the glass cover gets hot and dry. It gets harder for you to breathe the longer you are in there. Next comes heat exhaustion and then you feel like you are going to pass out. Then comes heat stroke and after that comes death! Yes, DEATH!

Here's a tip - If your pet's love car rides then make a special trip and take them for one. Drive slowly and crack the windows so they can feel the air on their faces. The car ride doesn't have to take long - just a trip up the road and back. Your pets will be so happy and you won't have to worry about leaving them in a hot car and killing them.

Please everyone, be responsible and don’t leave your pet in a hot vehicle not even for a minute.

Happy Birthday (Rescue Day) Sadie!

The first day we found/rescued her off the streets. Look at that sweet smile!

Sadie's Story...

It was 4 years ago today that my husband found our sweet girl on the streets. Her body was completely shaven to her skin, blisters and scabs were all over her from the horrible sunburn that she had and she was almost hit by an oncoming car when my husband saved her that glorious morning.

We knew she needed medical attention. The vet said if we would have brought her in just an hour later than we did her organs would have boiled. Yikes! So she got some much needed medical attention and I picked her up on my way home from work. When they brought her out from the back she ran into my arms -- wagging her tail so hard I thought it might fall off. I knew right then -- we were SO keeping her. Now, I just had to convince my husband. We already had three dogs so I didn't know how he would feel about a fourth puppy dog in the mix.

We had to quarantine her for a week from our other dogs. So, we blocked off half the house for what seemed like forever. My husband would sleep with her at night in the guest bedroom. He would rub her for hours until she fell asleep. Precious!

Finally, she could be with the other dogs. Hooray, they all loved each other! As my husband and I were sitting on the couch talking about her future, she sat in front of the ottoman and fell asleep sitting up. Alex took one look at me and said "Oh, we are so keeping her. She is so ours." Yes! Mission accomplished (as I winked at Sadie)!

Now that we were definitely keeping her she had to have a name. We decided on Sadie Samara (which means - Princess Protected by God). That is exactly what she is -- our sweet little precious princess! :-)

Happy Birthday (Rescue Day) Sadie! Mommy and Daddy love you so very much!

Sadie's new birthday toy, Mrs. Owl. :-)
